The Saidapet Metropolitan Magistrate has acquitted Bhuvaneswari from the charges of prostitution. The anti- women trafficking squad arrested Bhuvaneswari and three others for indulging in flesh trade on November 30, 2002. The case that came up for hearing several times saw Bhuvaneswari’s counsel argue that the case was falsely foisted on her.
The Magistrate who heard the arguments from both the sides acquitted the actress from the charges of prostitution. Bhuvaneswari has acted in several films in small roles and has performed for major roles in TV serials. Coming out the court she told reporters that she would soon expose those who had framed charges against her. Earlier actress Vinitha was similarly arrested for prostitution and later acquitted for lack of evidence.

While Cheran is riding on a high crest, winning many accolades for his Autograph, the rape accusation came as a spoke in a wheel. 19 year old Rehamathunisa from Trichi had accussed Cheran and Thangarbachaan of raping her. Subsequently a FIR was filed against them. Pained by these false accusations Cheran was relieved when the police commissioner of Trichy Sundaramurthy discharged the accusation as false.
Talking to journos, Sundaramurthy said “The hotel and room number mentioned by Rehamathunisa where the incident took place was not true. Cheran did not stay in that hotel at the mentioned date and time. She had further mentioned a cool drink was given to her at the time of the incident. On investigation it was known that that the particular brand of drinks was not served in the hotel”. A special team has been formed to further investigate with Thangarbachaan case

Famous playback singer of yesteryear Jikki (J.Krishnaveni) passed away in Chennai on August 16. She was 70. She died of liver cancer in a private hospital. Jikki started her career as a singer in the film Gnanasoundari.

Villain actor of yesteryear, S.V. Ramadoss, died at his son’s residence on Sunday (8/8/04). The actor was suffering from paralysis and was immobile for sometime. He was 83.

Ranjitha who is in Chennai and seperated from her hubby is filing a divorce petition. Her marriage was an arranged one and after marriage the hubby a keralite and army officer took her to his military camp. Her father let out the house for shooting. The actress after a brief sojourn came back with stories of how her married life was so joyful and her hubby being very nice and loving. But as she remained back her hubby started getting jittery and she started doing TV serials. Now she is accepting films too. The reason is that she is filing for divorce since she prefers kodambakkam and arc lights to military cantonments.

The shooting of the Appa Rao Driving School in Hyderabad abruptly was stopped by the heroine of the film Malavika when the hero of the film Rajendra Prasad misbehaved in a bedroom scene which was shot for the film. Annoyed by the film hero’s misbehavior, the actress began to cry seeking the film units’ men for help. Since everyone was in the midst of the shot, they could not hear the actress’ voice. But, Malavika came out and started shouting at the hero with foul languages, the crew men said. She was also telling that she was not prepared to act with Rajendra Prasad anymore. The actress went to the artistes' union in Hyderabad and filed a complaint against Rajendra Prasad. In her complaint she has stated that unless the hero himself tenders a written apology to her she would not act in the film or in any other film with him. Following the incident the producer had to abandon the shooting.

The petite Punjabi girl Simran stormed the Tamil film industry and reigned as the queen for many years. Having acted in many movies in glamorous roles she silenced her critics by proving her acting talent in Vaali and Thullatha Manamum Thullum. Rajagopalan narrated the story of Kicha Vayadhu 16, she immediately grabbed the offer. The heroine oriented subject seems to be the perfect launch pad for her re entry into films. Jai Akash and Boys Manikandan are paired opposite Simran. Rajagopalan says “This is a triangular love story based on a true life incident. Even though Kicha’s name appears in the title he is the villain in the movie”. When Rajagopalan said that the role required few glamourous scenes Simran was ready to show glamour without exposing her famous midriff because she is expecting a baby in a few months time. Wonder how Simran sans glamour will be accepted by her fans.

Trisha who is away in South Africa was contacted She said that she was shocked to hear about it when her friend in the US had told her. She denied saying, ”It was not me in the 21/2 minute bathing video clip and someone who wants to malign my name has done this on purpose”. Trisha further added that it was similar to the rumours about her suicide attempt and her involved in an accident. Trisha’s mother Uma strongly denied that it was her daughter in the bathing scene. She said that her daughter does not have the habit of taking bath in the shower and uses only the bathtub. She further added that the body language of the girl in the film was entirely different from Trisha’s and moreover Trisha does not own any jeans and T. shirt similar to the one that the girl removes just before her bath.

Director Ramanaa of Thirumalai and Sullan is now courting Sanghavi. According to Kodambakkam the director who cast Sanghavi for an item song fell head over heels for her. She too has reciprocated the feelings of the director. Ramanaa after Sullan's flop was removed from the Varsham remake in Tamil. He is waiting for Vijay to give him a film once more. Sanghavi on the other hand does not have any films and has recently signed a film with a stunt master as hero in Telugu. Is it wedding bells? Wait and see.

Talking to the press via telephone from Mauritius, Ankitha confirmed the news that she attempted suicide to avoid Navdeep’s sexual harassment. She had swallowed 8 sleeping pills when her mother came into her hotel room just in time to save her. Ankitha further added “Navdeep had been passing lured remarks at me and when I brought it to the cameraman’s notice, he ignored it. The unit members were also on Navdeep’s side. I informed the producer about this problem. He asked me to slap Navdeep on his behalf and that’s exactly what I did but in spite of it, Navdeep’s harassment did not end. So in a fit of helplessness I attempted suicide”. For the query, why did she posses sleeping pill, Ankitha replied that the doctor had prescribed the pills so that she can go to sleep early. She felt that this unfortunate incident could have been avoided if the director V.N.Aditya was present at the shooting spot.

Bharat Ratna M.S. Subalakshmi, the renowned carnatic musician passed away in Chennai, late Saturday night (11.12.04). She was hospitalized briefly due to illness. MS, as she is popularly known, started her short career in films with Seva Sadan in the 1930s. She played the role of Narada in Savitri and her title role in Meera gave her National recognition.
